"NRG networks run lunchtime networking meetings with a difference. The format is relaxed and friendly, but very professionally organised and focused on business education and building relationships."

Why Jeremy Marchant gets value out of NRG

NRG is a true partner with my own business!

emotional intelligence at work

NRG Bristol member

With my associates, I offer mentoring, coaching and training to small businesses and the health sector.  We specialise in teaching emotional intelligence to help people improve their interpersonal effectiveness at work.

I went to the first ever NRG lunch and joined straightaway.  To be honest, I joined because I was impressed by how well organised it was – and I refrained from renewing my membership of another networking lunch organisation.  I was trained by Shirlaws in a word of mouth referral process and I saw NRG’s potential to provide an excellent forum in which I could deploy this.  And so it has turned out.  I have been a member ever since, and go to three or so lunches a month – I’m continually amazed that more people don’t do this.

I have always enjoyed meeting people at NRG and then developing interesting and mutually useful business relationships with them.  It’s always fascinating to find out about other people’s approaches to business, and I get a lot from NRG – and not just in the “who do they know who might become a client?” area.

NRG started not long after I started my own business and, being unfamiliar with both the SME sector and the South West, I found it to be an invaluable research source.  I systematically applied myself to lots of one to one meetings with other NRG members and found this a very useful way of honing how I talked about my business, while finding out what would be of interest to the listener.

I get most my business through networking – and most of my networking is through NRG.  It is no exaggeration to say that all of our work in the NHS stems ultimately from a few NRG one to ones.  And I naturally turn to NRG members for services when I need them – for example Dave Harries has made some excellent videos of Kay and me (www.youtube.com/user/eintelligenceatwork).

I applaud NRG’s increasing focus on providing education for its members and I look forward to it completing its transformation to a unique “full services” business support organisation.  For me, the lunches are key events but their success depends not on the number of diners but on the quality of their interactions.  So I believe NRG is absolutely right to focus on improving everyone’s game.

I see NRG as far more than 'supplier':  it is a true partner with my own business.
