Will you be at your best?
Are you a morning soul or a night owl? When are you at your best? If you struggle in the morning don't commit to regular breakfast meetings. It seems obvious but sometimes it’s hard to think about yourself when you are working so hard to build your business. This attitude is not sustainable: if you get run down or ill then your business will suffer. If you look after yourself then your business will look after you!
Do you have the time to network like a professional?
Now we are not talking about flitting around in a pointless whirl. We’re talking about preparing well; giving each person you meet your full attention, and following up afterwards. Don’t forget to include traveling time when assessing how long meetings will take. Hear Tanya Rennick share the secrets of Good networking; the Rennick Rapport at Pitch Perfect Club in July 2013.
If you have limited time, it’s better to commit to one regular group than attend various events once. Networking is all about building relationships.
Do you really want to go?
At events, it’s always easy to spot the people who are there because they think they should be. It’s also easy to see the people who are pursuing business and not relationships. I think you should only go to events that are genuinely interesting for you, with speakers who you’d really like to see.
So, if you really want to go, you can fit it in to a time of day when you are on your game, and you have the time to do it properly – GO!
