A brilliant tip for a better work life balance.

At the end of last year, I spent quite a long time thinking about the preceding 12 months. I listed all the things that made me happy. My business, time with my child and time with my partner were top of the list. But I also realised that there were several other things that made a good day into a great day: my comedy work, seeing friends, exercise and taking time out for myself.

My experiment

I decided to do an experiment.

Firstly, I gave everything in the above list a colour. Then, I dotted these colours next to relevant listings in my diary.

It worked!

My colour coded happy things mean that every Sunday night I can look at my diary and see what’s missing. It’s very clear if I’ve not allocated time to do something I love, and I have time to remedy it. This way, I make sure I do everything that I love, every week. It’s made me happier, calmer and more in control of my life.

Watch your world grow

Why not try my rainbow life planning trick this week? Simply write a list of activities which make you happy and which you think you need in your life. Then, allocate them all a colour. Finally, add the colours to your diary and see what’s missing.

Let me know how it goes!
