Who is in your network today?


Hierarchy of your network

Many people start networking without giving any thought to the people they already know.  They think it is all about meeting new people.


But you already have existing relationships!  The secret if to understand how these relationship can help you in business.


Have a look through your contacts both business & personal and filter down to those you would be happy to talk business with.   At this stage do not think about what they can do for you. Think about what you could do for them then try & put them into two groups.


In the first group put the people that you have met, but have no real connection with. You don't know what you could do for them. We will call them your Outer Network.


In the second group put the people you have met and you know them well enough to recognise they have a particular skill or offer a valuable service. These will be people that you recognise are useful to know and in some cases refer. We will now divide these into three.


Identify the small group of people you would go out of your way to find introductions and referrals for. The people you advocate. This is the start of your advocate network & form part of your networking goldmine.


The next group are the ones that share the same target market as you and provide a service that is complementary to yours. We will call them your Inner Network & are the ones that complete your goldmine.


This will leave the people you have met and you know them well enough to recognise they have a particular skill or offer a valuable service, but you don’t want to spend more time with them. Call them your Resource Network.


Successful networkers have up to 30 people in their Inner Network & about six Advocates. These sessions are all about helping you to get to that happy position.

Classify your existing contacts into:


Outer network - people you have contact details



Resource network - people who you know have a particular skill



Inner network - people who you have rapport and know the people you want to meet



Advocates - people who know, like, rate and trust you and go out of their way to connect you with the right sort of people




Are you too focused on meeting new contacts?



Are you networking with the right people?
